"CHEM -WHIZ"

The “Chem-Whiz” is a newsletter of the Department of Chemistry of Modern Education Society’s, M. M. Arts and Science College, Sirsi (Uttara Kannada), Karnataka, India. This is brought by the help of a group of final year students of B.Sc. designated as Student Editorial Members, and was incepted in the year 2011.

The present Head of the Department of Chemistry- Dr. Ganesh S. Hegde, being the ‘Chief Editor’, and all the teaching faculty of the department are the default members of ‘Chem-Whiz’.

 ‘Chem-Whiz’ had been proving to be quite useful to the students, as it had become a wonderful platform to them for their creative expressions. Because, in “Chem-Whiz”, students can write articles, provide interesting informations, scientific interpretation of day to day happenings in ‘Societal Interface’, latest developments in the field of science. One can open the files of ‘history of science’, and can look for ‘spices’ in science. “Chem-Whiz” comprises an ‘Editorial’ by the Chief Editor, whereas the teacher members can also express their teaching experiences through ‘Teachers’ Corner’. The ‘World of Elements’ and ‘Departmental News’ are the other routine columns of it.

The interview of any local resource persons, and subsequently being produced ‘Interview article’, had become one of the key features of ‘Chem-Whiz’, wherein there is an intense involvement of all the Student Editors. Apart from these, there is the ‘Students’ Corner’ to express themselves further in various ways. Over the years, ‘Chem-Whiz’ had diluted its borders (earlier limited only to the boundaries of Chemistry-Science) and stretched even to the exotic field of Arts, as life isn’t an isolated bundle of single entity! Chem-Whizzies started visiting Photographers and various Artists too.

As you would have already guessed in the name “Chem-Whiz”; ‘Chem’ - stands for ‘Chemistry’ and ‘Whiz’- means Speed/Career/Expert etc. Even the colors chosen have their respective meanings. Hoping that the readers would enjoy surfing through this unique blog. Thanks for Reading.

The idea of “Chem-Whiz” was conceived due to the continued support and encouragement by my/our Guide & Philosopher- Prof. M. R. Nagaraju, Bangaluru; Educationist & Maverick Thinker, Retired professor of Chemistry.
